Meet Elva Mór, an 8-foot-tall lady on stilts, dressed in a spectacular recreation of a uniquely Irish style of clothing banned by Henry VIII in the 1500s. Once outlawed, these garments vanished from sight – except in the hearts of those bold enough to keep wearing them in secret.
Elva’s costume is based on a real medieval dress preserved in a bog and made from historically accurate fabrics, bringing a middle-class Irish woman of the Renaissance to vivid, towering life. As she roams, she shares stories of Irish fashion, rebellion, and the domestic linen and wool trades during a politically turbulent era.
