Do you look up to scientists? Well now you really can! Science on Stilts is a walkabout performance where real life scientists – who are also accomplished stiltwalkers – do simple science experiments with you! For example, they can talk to you on their paper cup phones, demonstrate why different objects dropped from a height land at the same time, and why they have to keep wobbling to stay upright. They’ll stop on their stilts to have scientific chats with anyone who has high ambitions to learn more about science. Our scientists on stilts elevate how atoms are made or why bubbles reflect colours to a new height – and huge fun.

10th June all day from 11am

Sorcas Circus Village is an immersive all-day event where children and young people have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of circus acts and art in hands-on workshops. The village area will be transformed into a magical place, using a small tent and props, as if it were a travelling circus. Inside this ring of wonder there will be continuous displays of circus arts throughout the day (hula hoop, juggling, clown face, acrobatics etc) alongside hands-on workshops in:
- Hula hoop
- Juggling
- Acrobatics
- Plate spinning
- Wire walking
- Rigging with Circus250’s aerial rig
- How to make a clown face
- Circus costume from Circus Wardrobe
The Circus Village will take place outdoors (weather permitting, by Golden Strand, Achill Island) or indoors (Halla Acla, The Sound, Achill Island).
This will be the first opportunity for children and young people of Achill and the region to experience a wide range of circus art. Through professional acts programmed throughout the day, they will have the chance to try circus arts for themselves. This includes not only physical activities (such as acrobatics) but the art of painting a clown face, and the heritage of how each clown has their own licensed face that no other clown is allowed to copy. Learn how circus costumes are made and the science behind the aerial rig and have a go at knotting and securing ropes.
No booking is required.

We are so excited to be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day 2023 by performing through Kilkenny’s medieval streets in their show-stopping parade. This year’s parade theme is Legends and Stories, so alongside the Celtic myths and legends you’ll travel back 250 years to the arrival of first circus in Ireland in 1773. From the first circus juggling acts to come to these shores, to the arrival of fantastical beasts from lands far away, to today’s astounding acrobats, experience the history of this magical art through the centuries. Then run away to the circus and learn to juggle, spin plates and do acrobatic tricks yourself!
Circus250 will be out in full force with clown antics from Juanita, juggling and plate spinning from Fruity n’ Dishy, circus face painting and more.
The 2023 Parade route will go from John Street, to Rose Inn Street, The Parade (Review stand), High Street, and finish at the Market Yard. Kilkenny will be full of lively entertainment and activity throughout the day with live music performances, food and crafts, interactive shows and carnival rides.
Make a day of it, or better still make a couple days of it as the Festival runs from the 15th – 19th March 2023. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with us and enjoy the best of Ireland and Kilkenny!
Parade starts at 1:30pm
