Come and celebrate the wonderful women of Mayo with us as part of Mayo Day 2025.
From Queens and Goddesses to writers and world renowned scientists – over the centuries Mayo has produced a notable band of proud and pioneering women. In entertaining historical talks, music, walkabout characters and storytelling for all the family, this day of Daring Dames illuminates these extraordinary lives, their triumphs and challenges, and puts their fabulous stories firmly on the Mayo map.

Free Entry – Everyone is Welcome
11:30am – The Bear Who Dared: Meet the magical talking Gráinne Bear and hear about her extraordinary adventures. Storytelling session for all the family in the historic barn.
12:30pm – Ghosts & Glory Tour: Explore Belleek Castle with a focus on the incredible Joyce Doran – but beware the mischievous ghost of Lottie Lampshade!
2:00pm – Rebel with a Cause: Hear the extraordinary story of Dr Kathleen Lynn, trailblazing physician and revolutionary, in a talk by historian Dr Yvonne McDermott.
3:30pm – Ghosts & Glory Tour Encore: Missed it earlier? Catch the Joyce Doran & Lottie Lampshade tour.
5:00pm – A Mayo Girl in London: Ballina’s award-winning novelist and playwright Kate Kerrigan shares her personal story in a relatable and funny talk: ‘Home is where the heart is.”
ALL DAY MAGIC – Don’t miss our16th Century Stilt walker in residence and live folk music in the Courtyard.
